POW! – It’s the impact that art has on a person. WOW! – It’s reaction that art has on a viewer. Together they form POW! WOW!, which is a Native American term that describes a gathering that celebrates culture, music and art. Centered around a week-long event that includes gallery shows, lecture series, mural projects, concerts, and live art installations, POW! WOW! brings international and local artists together to create murals and other forms of art. The festival has visited cities and destinations such as Taiwan, Long Beach, Hawaii, D.C. and now Worcester, MA.
ABOUT POW! WOW! WORCESTER:
POW! WOW! Worcester, a celebration of art and culture, held its inaugural mural festival on August 26 – September 4, 2016 in downtown Worcester. The event drew more than 10,000 people in the week leading up to Labor Day.
The 10 day international arts festival produced 15 curated murals in downtown Worcester, MA painted by artists from around the world.
Representing 8 different countries and 2 artists from Massachusetts: Arlin (Brazil), Askew (New Zealand), Christina Angelina (California), Dan Witz (New York), Greg Mike (Georgia), Imagine (Nepal), Jason Eatherly (Texas), JALLEN (Massachusetts), Marka 27 (Mexico), Morgan Blair (New York), Rustam QBic (Russia), Sabek (Spain), Sophy Tuttle (Massachusetts), Tavar Zawacki (Germany), Ghostbeard (Michigan), Spencer Keeton Cunningham (California), Matt Gondek (California), Patch Whiskey (South Carolina).
POW! WOW! Worldwide, a producer of international mural festivals, will make Worcester its first ever East Coast festival. The weeklong festival known as POW! WOW! Worcester will appeal to a diverse audience with multiple styles of murals, providing local and international artists with a wide array of local building facades to design. Ancillary events will take place throughout the city and include an artist talk, art fundraiser, musical performances and an outdoor celebration with a centralized hub in downtown Worcester.
POW! WOW! Worcester is committed to making the City a more culturally dynamic place by activating spaces, engaging in the arts, and generating pride in the city.
